Excellent book

I read this book from 2 perspectives: 1) that of a resident's and 2) from an practitioner's. From either point of view, this was an excellent book on prosthetic devices.
1) This book is well-written, concise, and information is presented in a way that is easy to understand. Perfect for residents who are just starting to learn about prosthetics. The writing itself is well-balanced, and that is key to a good textbook. There are many other texts out there with good information in them, however the writing itself is almost impossible to understand and presented in a disorganized fashion that is difficult to follow.
But here, information flows well from one topic to another, starting with basic functional anatomy, amputations, rehab, and then prosthetic devices, which is essential to understanding prosthetic devices well. It doesn't just dive right in to prosthetic devices at the very start.
The information itself in this book is a goldmine. After reading the first 10 pages I could identify at least 10 relevant topics that are covered on the SAE and board related topics. Again, from a resident's perspective, whether you're learning prosthetics for the first time or graduating and studying for the boards, this book has very useful and high-yield information.
There are a lot of updated pictures (in colour!), computer generated diagrams and tables that give the book a cleaner look overall (No more hand drawings from the 1960s!)
2) This book discussed all the basics of prosthetics but also included higher level information that practitioners need to know, as well. Tables, specifically the K-levels and charts for Medicare were handy and easy to find, as they were presented in more than one chapter. This was handy because I didn't have to hunt through the 370 pages looking for that one particular table that was on 1 specific page.
All the tables and charts were helpful and presented in an organized fashion, again, making it easy for the busy practitioner to look things up rather quickly for information.
The information is up-to-date with the newest technologies but also has the old classic devices as well.
In summary, a great book for anyone at the resident or attending/practitioner level.

Important source of information on prosthetic rehabilitation

The book is written and edited by a highly professional group from the University of Michigan Orthotics and Prosthetics Center. It is a much needed source of information, reflecting the clinical experience of the authors and the state of the art in the field. The appearing novel technologies create a challenge for optimal selection of the components and approaches to prosthetic rehabilitation for a specific person with amputation. That is possible, as the authors demonstrate, by detailed analysis of anatomical and physiological conditions of the patient (Parts I-II). Return to the society as a valuable member is a primer psychosocial outcome of the rehabilitation independent on the severity of disability (Parts III-IV). Looking to the future, the authors give a perspective of the new development, including robotic approach (Part IV). This is a valuable book for specialists and for amputee patients and their families.
