Don't waste your money

Despite having read hundreds of online books, i have never left a review but i felt so ripped off by this poorly written book that is hard to folllow and full of mistakes.

Truth in well written fiction

A close friend of my wife's suggested this story to me a little while ago . She said once she read it she thought of me and my wife . I lost my wife a few years ago unexpectedly after surgery . We met at 14 years and she was my high school sweetheart, and we married .after college. We had three children, and we had been married 46 years six months and 11 days when she died from complications after a successful. Afterwards,. I had very similar experiences as the main character and I know that with help from others, and support from others , life does can go on. I also learned that we each go through this process in our own way and in our own time . The author goes on to show us that even well written fiction can teach us about life .

A Good story but a little sad at times.

I found the narration in this book to be done very well. I enjoyed the main characters, but the story was sad and depressing as there was suicide and characters who struggle as a result of it. I listened while in my car for only short periods of time and I was okay with it. It might be quite emotional if you try to sit and listen to the whole story at once.
Some may find the doctor and patient relationship on the taboo side.
Overall I was satisfied with my time spent listening to this novel.

About the Author

Timothy D. Lee, PhD, is a professor in the department of kinesiology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Lee, whose research on practice and motor learning has been frequently cited, is the author of more than 80 research papers in peer-reviewed publications in the area of motor control and learning. He is also the coauthor, along with Richard Schmidt, of the seminal text Motor Control and Learning: A Behavioral Emphasis, now in its fifth edition.

Lee is the former president of the Canadian Society for Psychomotor Learning and Sport Psychology and also a former editor of both Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport and Journal of Motor Behavior. As an amateur golfer, Lee was ranked 22nd among senior golfers in Ontario in 2010. He also enjoys playing right wing for the Dundas Oldtimer ice hockey team and is a blues music enthusiast. Tim and his wife, Laurie Wishart, reside in Ancaster, Ontario.

I purchased this copy used. It arrived fairly quickly and in the condition described by the vendor (sort of worn but not bad). I was surprised by the number of pages! I'm using it for researching various ethnic groups/hairstyles for dollmaking, and this book is a treasure trove of current and past hairstyles...I don't think an area of the world has been missed, and I don't see where I'd need any additional resource for research. The illustrations are clear and detailed. I'm happy with it!

It's just drawings

I bought this book for research purposes for writing. This book contains some thousand drawings of hair styles from around the world. It's tells the regions the styles are from, but not the actual style names. The drawings are decent, usually between 1 and 4 to a page, ocsasionally more.

Having moved in with her mother's parents after the death of her father, Louise finds that her grandmother's increasing reliance on the local church for comfort after her husband's death draws a soon to be unwelcome guest to the family home: the verger, Mr. Jarvis. Whilst outwardly paying attention to her widowed grandmother, he also seems to be focussed on Louise herself, and abuses his position of trust, both at the church's Sunday school and in the family home, to force his unnatural obsessions on her.

Even after Louise's mother remarries and she can finally look forward to moving away from Mr. Jarvis, Louise must endure one more harrowing attack before he is finally caught out. But even then, with child protection teams still very much in their infancy in the early 1980s, Louise still lives with the consequences of her unstable childhood.

Kept my interest from start to finish

After reading the book, I was surprised at the low scores some people have given this book. Yes, it is short and can be read in a couple of hours by a fast reader. However, I felt the book was well written in a natural voice and easy to follow. The very few minor typos did not create a problem for me. The story takes place in England, and the author tells of her experience of being abused by a "trusted" leader from the family's church. I was fascinated by the ploy used by the abuser, and I learned from the author how confusing it was for her. I appreciated that she shared the thought process she went through as she tried to understand what had happened to her. The author states that she wrote her story as part of writing therapy, and I'm grateful for the education it provided us readers. Very well done, "Louise."

“In The Politics of Insects, Scott Wilson has produced a penetrating account of David Cronenberg as political modernist. Drawing on Slavoj Zizek's notion of the heretic, as one who takes specific ideological injunctions and disciplinary structures at face value in order to reveal their fictive, constructed nature, Wilson shows, through sustained and exact analysis of Cronenberg's films, from Shivers to Eastern Promises, the political critique effected by his cinema. He re-invigorates many of the issues that characterised an earlier phase of film theory, drawing on Althusser, Foucault, Baudry, Narboni, and others, to draw out what it is for Cronenberg to have laid bare the devices of cinematic narration. Paying close attention to the determining structures of films like Spider and Videodrome, Wilson makes clear how narrative can be made to operate in such a way that the reality it describes merges unendingly with its own reality as narrating process. Narration is to be seen, not as the representation of an event, but as that event itself. What films such as Videodrome represent is thus, in Lacan's words, the lack of the very function that engenders them. As a result, the structure of diegetic reality is rendered 'permeable and the boundary between objective and subjective is breached'. Taking as his guide Cronenberg's description of his 'project' as being 'to show the unshowable, speak the unspeakable', Wilson contends that the aim of these films is to extend cinema up to and beyond its limits, to move beyond what is intelligible, to show what cannot be shown, the Real, the 'pre-ontological': to penetrate the region of 'insect politics'. Honest and sobering storytelling with a dash of humor

I picked up this book at 4:30pm (right after the Seahawks declared victory over the packers) thinking that I would have a leisurely evening multitasking with cooking dinner and picking it back up after my daughter went to bed. But no, I read it from beginning to end all in one evening because it was so captivating.

And yes, I have grown to be skeptical of listening to messages from the pulpit about suffering and rolling my eyes about how the preacher over spiritualizes and delivers pat messages about suffering, but there isn't an ounce of that in this book. This is an honest account about the disappointment that Peter chin and his family have endured and it is also an account about the overwhelming faithfulness of God (delivered without the pat messages of course).

Peter Chin, thank you for your courage and bravery in being so vulnerable about how God has shaped you and how he is currently shaping you. May your life (and this book) be an example of how we can be more vulnerable with each other and how we can live our lives as co-sufferers in experiencing God's overwhelming love and goodness.

A great read! Who hasn't wrestled with these same questions of disappointment and suffering? Highly recommended.

I've bought hundreds of books from Amazon, but this is my first ever attempt at a review. I think it's fitting though as Pastor Peter Chin's book struck a chord with me in a deeply personal way, weaving the age old questions of "is God good, and can he be fully trusted?" into his (and his family's) very personal story of faith and trust. It's written in a way that very easily draws you in, and I found myself reading the entire book in a single sitting!

There's a little bit of a "blue like jazz'" feel to it as it seems you not only get to know Peter on a personal level, but also his wife Carol and the rest of their children. I appreciate how the book leaves room for the mystery of God in suffering, and doesn't give pat and easy answers of "well this happened because God wanted to do this". Blind Sided by God draws you into the Chin family's story of faith with refreshing humor and flow, allowing at the same time for you to see similarities of struggle in your own journey...and ultimately coming out feeling like you've walked a little bit of the journey with this wonderful family of seven.

"Faith is not a breathing exercise to make us marginally more at peace in the midst of modern distraction. It is stern stuff that allows a person to stare into the darkest void and walk straight in. Faith was made for hardship, suffering, fear, sickness, and nights like this...
Faith shows its true power and full worth in such moments."

That's Pastor Peter Chin speaking.
The night he's speaking of was a night where he came to the end of all his reserves.
His beautiful young wife had aggressive breast cancer, coming close on the heels of the miscarriage of her third pregnancy. Their two daughters were under five years of age.
They had just moved to a new city, into a neighborhood infested with crime, for the purpose of planting a church.

Nothing that defined Peter before this point could help him now.
The fact that he was a pastor couldn't carry him.
The fact that he was her husband couldn't fight Carol's disease.
The fact that he was their father couldn't shield his daughters from fear.
Only a living God, One who is present with His people, could meet these needs.

In this new book, Peter takes us step by step through these dark, difficult, valley-of-the-shadow months.

The Chin's personal story is riveting. (The author may object to that, but it was.)
The trials they encountered came so hard and fast that it's no wonder Peter felt betrayal and despair when he thought of them all.
The wonder is that he can now point to providence, care, redemption, and grace as sustaining his family during it all.

In the beginning of the book, he tells us that he's not writing a theological treatise on suffering, he's relating his personal experience.
Without crossing the line into academic analysis, he brings forth some incredible insights.
When you get your copy, pay attention to these chapters- "The Mulberry and the Wisteria" and "A Minor Miracle."

How he keeps his sense of humor I don't know, but this is also one of the funniest books I've read in a while. (I started laughing out loud when he made this certain comment about the hospital elevator.)

Short review: This book will wrench your heart as you think about a family trying to deal with all of this, and it will move you to praise God as you see His presence in their lives.

Rihards Olups has over 15 years of experience in information technology, most of it with open source solutions. Definitely a good book on Zabbix

This is a very good book on Zabbix. Its a little bit bigger than I used to see from Pack Pub, but everything about Zabbix is discussed in this book. This book goes really into the details of like everything in Zabbix. From installing the Agent or the Server to creating and adjusting templates to complete your own monitoring setup. Or configuring Zabbix for monitoring VMware hosts/guests and don't forget the Proxy, all is discussed in detail. Also this book is written for the newly released Zabbix 3.0. All the new things like the encryption between the Agent and Server is discussed in this book to, so you won't have to use google for these new features.

This book will not only help the sysadmins who are new to Zabbix, even the more experienced sysadmins who work daily with Zabbix will learn from it.

I could say much more, but will only say two things. First, the author omitted the word Britain from the title. This is a history of British power stations. If you look in the alphabetical index, you will not find the words Zipernowsky, D�ri, Bl�thi, Ganz, Stanley, or Westinghouse. But you will find "Accidents, fatal, to horses, 105." Second, there are no citations. If you want to verify what the author alleges, you are on your own. There is a single sentence in which the author says that he consulted ""Electrical Review, Electrician, Engineer, Garcke's Manual of Electrical Undertakings, and other publications." Good grief! I am returning this "book."
