In The Nick Of Time

Nick Morgan fell for Cory James the day they met, Rufus the dog made sure of that. After knocking Nick to the ground, and eating up his cell phone, Rufus gave Nick a built in way for Cory to make amends for letting Rufus off his leash. She had to go on a date with Nick.
Cory ended up going with Nick to dinner, and because it was to an exclusive restaurant, Cory's Aunt Joan stepped in and provided a great dress for Cory to wear. Later Nick made sure Cory felt guilty enough for him to see her as often as he could.
Cory couldn't see herself as a lovable person, because her late parents never showed her love. But her Aunt Joan loved her and felt deeply for the lack of love in her niece's life, Joan could never understand why anyone could have a child like Cory and not love her. Pouring as much love on Cory as she could Joan tried to make up for the lack of feelings Cory had received from her parents.
Nick came alone and he too wanted to give Cory the love she lacked and he didn't mind giving that love patiently.
Nick was everything a hero should be. Cory came to the same conclusion.
So with love and patience Nick won Cory's heart.

Helen Brooks First Best of 2007

I absolutely loved this book, it was one of my quick reads, which I read in a few hours I loved both the main characters Cory and Nick. they showed depth and they are characters that you can relate to. Although Cory had a lot of personal hang ups about her own self-worth, Nick handled the situation beautifully. Not being to macho or over bearing, but a genuine guy, despite his wealth seemed down to earth and well grounded. He not only recognized Cory for who she was in a positive way, but he was able to point out her flaws as well as his own without seeming to be patronizing and holier than thou.

If your looking for a light love story with a realistic ending and a few light laughs I recommend this book.

Boring & Easy to Forget

I found this romance book, so very boring and easy to forget. The story jumped quickly from Nick Morgan being angry at Cory to him falling totally in love with her. It was a bit unbelievable as well. Cory allowed her aunt's large, uncontrollable dog off its leash and the dog collided into Nick Morgan, causing damage. One moment he was angry with her, the next minute he was asking her out on a date.

The heroine, Cory, was too, too, incredibly innocent. I do believe there are still innocent young women in our world, and the Harlequin Romance series has built many story lines on innocent virginal heroines. But I found this heroine (Cory), too "green" and just plain boring. The hero, Nick was stiff and predictable.

The storyline was out-dated, but set in a modern world. Nick Morgan and Cory, as a couple just did not have any heat or sparks and this came across in the book.

Through his active clinical practice, Dr. Ilardi has treated several hundred depressed patients. He lives with his family in Lawrence, Kansas.

Saved my life when doctors, meds couldn't

I've waited a full year to write this review (literally, I ordered the book 367 days ago!) This book was recommended to me by two extended family members struggling with mild to moderate depression. I had been fighting with SEVERE clinical depression; it robbed me of my life, of enjoying my husband and children. I sought medical, psychological, and psychiatric help for about two years... Several medications, dosage changes, doctors, therapists, etc... Nothing made a dent.
And then I read this book. And everything changed.
His 6 steps gave me something to focus on, other than "being sick." Just the change from seeing Life from a Wellness perspective rather than a Sickness perspective changed so much. Knowing the science behind depression, anxiety, and the brain really gave me reason to work on each step... Getting the kids schlepped to the gym with me, practicing light therapy, forcing myself to keep busy hands/mind by coloring in coloring books (you can even get nicer ones for adults, which help), reading novels, listening to audiobooks... Distracting from my illness, stopping my mind from racing and ruminating.
Fast forward a year. I have lost 40 pounds as a convenient side effect of the exercise (from a size 16 to a size 4), ran 2 half-marathons, and completely changed my life.
Depression is like alcoholism or cancer... Once you have it, you'll always have it to a certain extent, considering yourself "on the wagon" or "in remission". But I continue to take my vitamins/supplements and put in the work to make sure I never go back. I keep a list of the 6 steps taped inside my kitchen cupboard so, if I'm feeling a little off, I can check the list and say "ah, I'm not sleeping well. Time to get outside and soak in some sunlight to set my body clock."
Buy this book. Never, in a million years, did I think I could climb out of the hole Depression had buried me in. I was drowning. I PROMISE this book will work if you just read about the steps and start following them. FORCE yourself to get out of bed and do the work EVERY DAY. No matter what. YOU ARE WORTH THE EFFORT.

Changed my life

I don't usually write reviews here, but I had to spread the word about what a great book this is. It has truly changed my life. I've always had intermittent bouts of moderate to severe depression, probably since I was 16 (I'm 27). Anti-depressants haven't worked for me. I've managed to get by in life, but I'm getting really tired of the constant up and down. Also, I want to have kids soon-ish, but I don't want to put my kids through my crazy. So...

Enter this book.

Dr. Ilardi recommends six lifestyle interventions: 1) big daily dose of omega-3 fatty acids, 2) cognitive tricks to stop rumination, 3) exercise, 4) light therapy, 5) social interaction, and 6) healthy sleep. The thing that makes this book so great (and worth buying even though I just revealed the six magic interventions) is that he breaks each one down into small steps that are very doable - even for someone suffering from I-can't-even-muster-the-thought-of-getting-out-of-bed depression. His regimen is 12 weeks long, and the first week, for instance, all you have to do is take some supplements. It builds from there, but very incrementally.

I should mention that while I'm holistically-inclined, I also have a good grasp on science and a research-based education and career, so I tend to be a little skeptical of "cure" type books. But I found this one to be scientifically sound, with an extensive list of references that you can look up if you want to go deeper into the literature.

Overall, I really can't recommend it highly enough. It is EASY to read, which is a must for someone whose brain is freaking out. I ordered the book, gave myself a week to read it and then started the regimen the next week. It has made huge difference already (I'm on week 4), and, most importantly, these are healthy changes that I can make for the rest of my life. I have great hope that these techniques will "even out" my moods in the long-term and really improve quality of life for my family and me. Dr. Ilardi, if you happen to see this, thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Lots of filler with some good common sense advice

This book has some simple, common sense advice and is written in a typical "self-help" style (i.e., a bit of research results and lots of filler anecdotes). It would have made a good magazine article. Keep in mind that there is very little peer reviewed research to back any of this up but I don't see how any of his advice would hurt. Basically, stop stewing and ruminating, and get active. Do instead of think. Increase your exposure to direct sunlight, take large doses of Omega-3 fatty acids, and beef up your social interactions. The less time you spend alone, ruminating, and away from rewarding interactions with people and direct sunlight, the better. Basically this is behavioral activation therapy and some healthy lifestyle advice. If you haven't heard this before, the book is worth getting. I have problems with the title. There is no cure-all for everyone's depression. But you won't go wrong following the author's advice - and it is likely to help you. There is far too much filler here for me. I skipped the repeated, formulaic, "A patient of mine named Jill was having trouble with....she tried my advice to....she had complete relief in 3 weeks.." anecdotes. These are always simplistic stories with miraculous results. They are never clinically designed trials - just the author's word.

Great Reference Book

I used to work in a library. I checked out several books dealing with cleaning my home with a "green" solution. This was the book I picked for me. I now buy it as a wedding gift or home warming gift for friends. It has so many quick, tricks. It also gives good advice on how to handle different situations that come up through out having a home.

I spent a few days with this book trying to find some ideas and inspiration on home organization. The title is very misleading...if you're looking for home remedies, natural cleaning compounds and suggestions on how to "save money" and the environment by buying new appliances then 99% of this book is what you want. Yu'd be better off reading the Foxfire books though.

It was a total waste of time, fortunately just a library loan though and not a purchase.

I must say it is one of the best books I've read in a long time

After reading Mara Power's new book, Shadows of Atlantis, I must say it is one of the best books I've read in a long time. As a huge J.R.R. Tolkien fan, Shadows of Atlantis develops a rich and complex history, background, character development, and world setting, analogous to the creation of Middle Earth. Combining aspects of real world history as described by Plato and Ignatius Donnelly, it is amazing, impressive, and obvious how much real-world research Mara has done into this marvelous account of ancient Atlantis.

One truly amazing aspect of the book is how well Mara ties in actual history with a very plausible and entertaining tale of suspense, romance, and novelty. Science, engineering, plot twists, character depth, and mythological history are all intertwined beautifully in the book for a seamless reader experience. Reminiscent in many ways of the worlds of Roger Zelazny (Chronicles of Amber), J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings) and even J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, Mara does a beautiful job of tying fact and fiction together in such a way as to convince the reader she has solved the mystery of Atlantis and the ancient world. It is abundantly clear how much effort went into this book, not only in historical research of Atlantis, but also very plausible technological (think Elon Musk) aspects of an ancient civilization destroyed and great knowledge once known, and then lost.

In between the lines, I was impressed by what, in my opinion, hinted at aspects from the famous prophecies of Edgar Cayce, and even theories of mystical and metaphysical beliefs often found in Eastern philosophy.

As the reader progresses through the book, Mara does an outstanding job of building the characters, introducing and creating a rich world from its beginnings to the present, and leaves the reader breathless in a lush adventure of lust, betrayal, suspense; along with an amazing cliff hanger at the end!

I look forward to her next book in this epic series!

It's like the "Mists of Avalon" go to Atlantis!

I remember when Mara Powers was writing the last chapter of the rough draft of "Shadows of Atlantis" - we busted out a bottle of champagne to celebrate, not knowing at the time what a huge hit this book would become to be. Years later I finally got to purchase the finished novel and I simply cannot put this story down. The characters are so rich and detailed I can feel them step off the pages. I love how she weaves in New Age mythology with the epic tale of Atlantis in a way that makes this ancient world feel tangible and realistic. I haven't felt this way about a book since I read "The Mists of Avalon"! Bravo, Mara Powers. I'm hooked and cannot wait for book two! ~ Scarlet Amor, author @ [...]

Sections rendered useless with Crown Update

With the day one update, or "Crown Update", sections of the guide have been rendered useless. Now, I'm not blaming Piggyback at all, they've even went as far as releasing a free PDF file with changes/additions. No, the blame for that rests on Square & the gaming industry as a whole, and the need to ship games ASAP even if they're incomplete. Day one patches should not be a normal occurrence. But anyways, I'm getting off track.

I'm still playing thru FFXV and haven't used the majority of the walkthru section, so I can not comment on that yet. However, sections like Fishing & Cooking are the most incomplete, again because of the update. Cooking only lists 46 recipes instead of 105. Fishing sections list 40 fish instead of 100. The Lure info is highly lacking, and one will spend hours fishing incorrectly if one does not use the free update. I know, it happened to me.
Another thing I've noticed is that some of the maps are different compared to the in game map and it becomes even more noticeable when running around looking for items. My brother suggested that maybe the book maps are based off the minimap, which indeed looks different from the low-res world map.

Sadly, I wouldn't recommend this at all, no matter how awesome the hardback looks & feels. High quality pages, not cheap & thin paper like, for example, the World of Final Fantasy guide from Prima. Doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart or break the binding when I use it. It's definitely one of the better hardback guides I've bought. I just wish Piggyback would offer a reprint and maybe a trade-in for a guide that included the day one patch stuff.

Until this gets a new version, stick to gamefaqs.com.

EDIT 12/11/2016: Sadly, after very careful occasional usage the binding has broke. I don't know whether to rate this a 2 or 1 star now.

This is the best guide book for the game out there. They will also provide a PDF of the updated pages.
Spend the extra money and buy it at a book store or at GameStop.
Although the product is great the quality is poor. The binding came apart in the first open and the pages fell out. I did receive a replacement after shipping the bad one back.
A lot of people complain about the book arriving bent or damage. I order my book with other products so it came in a bigger box and was protected. My replacement came damaged with bent corners when it was shipped by itself but not enough damage for me to do another replacement. My rating is based on product quality of the pages falling out.

Should have stuck with free internet guides.

The game was amazing, but whoever laid out this guide should be fired. The charts are not in alphabetical order, in fact they are not in any order I could discover. The index doesn't have entries for areas that are visited along the main story, so if you return to a place you've been to before you better know what chapter it was in if you want to use the guide to find things there. I really wish Prima could have made the guide for this, their guides are infinitely better. The only reason I gave them two starts was because they do have most of the information you could want, and they do publish a PDF with updates to the game as they come.
