I have always had the negative stigma of sex in my thoughts as it was taught to me my whole life by well-meaning church leaders, and while I did not wholeheartedly buy in, I wondered if I should indulge sexually when married for fear of objectifying my wife, or becoming a sex driven being. After reading the first chapter and seeing many of my own insecurities come to light, and then the second, in which Sister Brotherson shares teachings from the scriptures and the brethren that instruct us that sex withing marriage is not only good, but can bring us closer to God, as well as each-other, my attitude towards sex changed entirely. It is not the lust-driven evil and tempting prospect the world teaches, but rather part of the process of becoming sanctified and becoming like God ourselves. The rest of the chapters I won't get to implement until I get married, but look forward to it with an eye of faith, rather than lust.

I can't say enough good things about this book. By the time I was halfway through I had already learned so much that I didn't have a clue about. It is tastefully written, thorough, and specific. If you purchase this book, and I heartily recommend that you do, don't bother to buy The Act of Marriage, which this book quotes considerably. It doesn't add anything new, and is in some ways inaccurate. Laura has somehow managed to gather all the essentials I was looking for in one book, clarifying how men and women approach marriage differently, what their different needs are, and how they can work toward becoming one. I doubt you'll find a better book on sexual intimacy, especially for those who have been taught to think of sex as dirty. This positive, hopeful book reaffirms the full glory and pleasure that sexual relations were always meant to be, and yes, this is for men *and* women!

Is only really useful for a certain type of crowd. The main focus is on girls (or guys I suppose) who have been raised to think sex is dirty or a sin. Also it is mainly just quote after quote backing up a single statement or the same idea just stated in different words. There are better books out there to prepare you for a physical relationship in marriage.
